Our university participated in the 3rd Graduate Education Institutes Workshop organized within the scope of the Association of Technical Universities (TU12). The workshop, hosted by Istanbul Technical University, was attended by our Graduate Education Institute Director Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Uyan and Deputy Director Dr. Lecturer Vahit Tongur on behalf of Konya Technical University.
The workshop, held in three sessions under the titles “Expanding the TU12 Joint Graduate Ecosystem,” “Graduate Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” and “Transformation in Graduate Education: Structured Doctorate, Industry Doctorate, and Modular Graduate Models,” brought together Turkey’s leading technical universities with the aim of shaping the future of graduate education.
In the first session of the workshop, which began with opening speeches by ITU Graduate Education Institute Director Prof. Dr. Fatma Seniha Güner, first-term implementations of TU12 joint graduate courses, encountered problems, and solution suggestions were discussed. Additionally, opinions were exchanged regarding the creation of joint graduate programs (Joint Degree and Double Degree) as well as the planning of graduate research symposia and joint events for experience sharing.
In the second session of the workshop, the title “Graduate Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” came to the forefront. Within this context, the use of AI tools in thesis writing processes, as well as oversight and governance mechanisms such as the “Thesis AI Declaration Form” and “AI Ethical Guideline,” were evaluated. It was emphasized that AI should be considered not merely a support tool but a fundamental infrastructure technology transforming education. Roadmaps for increasing AI literacy among graduate students and integrating AI into interdisciplinary research models were shared.
In the third session, under the title “Transformation in Graduate Education: Structured Doctorate, Industry Doctorate, and Modular Graduate Models,” the management of doctoral processes, the current situation within TU12, and recommendations for improvement were discussed. Evaluations and suggestions were shared regarding Industry Doctorate applications and modular graduate education models.
