Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Koyuncu, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, was elected as a member of the world-renowned Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honour Society.
Sigma Xi, one of the world's most prestigious societies with more than 60 thousand members from all over the world who carry out pioneering studies in the fields of science and technology, decided to make our faculty member a member of Sigma Xi due to his achievements in decision support systems, artificial intelligence, image processing, biomedical, optimisation studies.
Stating that he is proud to be a member of Sigma Xi, one of the world's prestigious societies operating since 1886, Koyuncu said, ‘Sigma Xi is an organisation that symbolises the universal values of science and the importance of research. Its members represent scientific excellence and innovative thinking. Being accepted into this honourable society not only provides me with an opportunity to celebrate my scientific achievements, but also brings with it the responsibility to further increase the impact of my research on society and the scientific world.’

Among the criteria for Sigma Xi membership, researchers must have a large number of scientific articles published in high impact journals and these articles must be widely referenced. The invitation to membership is made by the Sigma Xi scientific board or by two members who are nominated as candidates.
Sigma Xi is an international interdisciplinary scientific research honour society. Among the scientists accepted to the society are more than 200 Nobel laureates such as Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, Richard Feynman and Jennifer Doudna.
