Dear Esteemed Visitor,
First of all, we would like to thank you for visiting our department’s website.
VISION
The vision of our department is to be an effective academic unit that is recognized at national and international levels for its educational activities, aims to produce scientific knowledge and develop technology, ensures the sustainability of these achievements, and contributes to the advancement of social welfare.
MISSION
The mission of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in terms of education, social awareness, and the machinery and manufacturing industry is as follows:
Our department has a history of more than 50 years. It was established in 1970 and operated within the Konya State Engineering and Architecture Academy between 1971 and 1982, within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Selçuk University between 1982 and 2018, and since 2018, it has continued its education and research activities under the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Konya Technical University.
Education in our department is conducted in the native language (Turkish).
At the undergraduate level, two programs are offered: Mechanical Engineering (Daytime Education) and Mechanical Engineering (Evening Education).
The activities of our department are carried out within the framework of education, research, and collaboration with public institutions and industry.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Konya Technical University is one of the strongest mechanical engineering departments in our country in terms of academic staff and educational quality. As of 2025, our department has 30 faculty members and 13 research assistants. There are approximately 850 undergraduate students enrolled in daytime and evening programs, and about 125 students in graduate programs.
The curriculum and course plans in our department are continuously updated in line with feedback from industry, employers, and alumni, as well as technological developments. In their final year, students are offered a wide range of technical elective courses, allowing them to specialize in areas of interest. Additionally, within non-technical electives, students may take two courses in fields such as painting, photography, communication, literature, law, psychology, etc.
Final-year graduation projects are conducted as team-based studies, mostly addressing real needs from industry. In many cases, prototypes of the designed products are manufactured. Each student is required to take seven elective courses in the final year, and each course includes at least one application such as a project, presentation, or term assignment. Thus, students develop strong competencies in design, the most essential function of engineering, as well as skills in presentation, documentation, project planning, teamwork, and conflict management. Students take two major design project courses in their senior year.
Additionally, students complete internships either voluntarily or as a requirement. Mandatory internships consist of 20 working days at the end of the 1st year, 20 working days at the end of the 2nd year, and 20 working days at the end of the 3rd year.
We place great importance on teaching professional software relevant to mechanical engineering. Our students gain experience using many professional tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, FLUENT, MATLAB, ANSYS, and LabVIEW. All students graduate with knowledge and experience in CNC machine programming.
We also emphasize the technical, social, and personal development of our students through extracurricular activities. Many of our students actively participate in various student communities within the university. Some take part in events such as Teknofest, solar-powered vehicle competitions, and robotics competitions. Students can also join the Mechanical Engineering Club, which is exclusive to our department, to develop organizational and managerial skills. Our department organizes numerous technical and social activities, and the Chamber of Mechanical Engineers (Konya Branch) provides significant support through training programs, technical visits, and social events.
Our students have the opportunity to pursue double major and minor programs. Students who meet the requirements can obtain a second major degree in fields such as Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical-Electronics Engineering, or Computer Engineering alongside their Mechanical Engineering degree. Similarly, they can complete a minor program and receive a certificate in another field.
We strongly encourage our students to participate in exchange programs such as Erasmus, enabling them to study for one or two semesters at universities in Europe and gain international experience. We strive to utilize all available quotas for such opportunities.
We place great importance on transferring the scientific knowledge produced by our academic staff to public institutions and industry. In this regard, we aim to select thesis topics at both undergraduate and graduate levels based on industrial needs. Many of our research projects are conducted to meet the technical requirements of public and private sector organizations, and a significant portion is supported by institutions such as TÜBİTAK. Our faculty members lead numerous TÜBİTAK and BAP-funded research projects.
Our university offers significant advantages in terms of accommodation. Students may stay in dormitories operated by the Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK), and there are also many private dormitories in Konya offering quality services at reasonable prices. Bosna-Hersek Neighborhood, located just across from our campus, is a unique student district in Türkiye, with well-developed social and economic facilities including dormitories, shopping centers, restaurants, cafes, outlet stores, and marketplaces.
We take pride in being one of the departments where university-industry collaboration is most active and in providing services to public and private sector organizations in our region and country.
In summary, we strive to provide our students with the best possible future. Our graduates are employed as academics, researchers, managers, bureaucrats, and technical professionals. Due to their high performance in examinations, many of our graduates have recently been appointed as research assistants at universities.
With these thoughts, we once again thank you for visiting us. We would be honored if you choose our department. Please do not hesitate to contact us via phone, email, or other means. On behalf of all my colleagues, I wish you health, success, and well-being.
